Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Online CEU: Continuing education units for career courses

Continuing education units or CEUs are a form of education unit recognized by many companies and employers. Pursuing online CEUs can provide you a way to advance your skills while fulfilling your employer's training goals.

At Sessions College, CEUs can be earned by taking certificate programs or individual courses.

Sessions College for Professional Design is approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. In obtaining this approval, Sessions College for Professional Design has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard which is widely recognized as a standard of good practice internationally.

IACET is known as the premier standard-setting organization for continuing education and training providers. Authorized Providers (APs) are organizations that meet IACET's internationally recognized continuing education and training standard and therefore may award IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs). As an Authorized Provider, Sessions College for Professional Design is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard.

Please review our FAQ about continuing education units:

Q. What is a continuing education unit (CEU)?

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized standard for assessing the time spent in educational, professional development, or training activities. The IACET Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

Q. What is the purpose of the IACET CEU?

The primary purpose of the CEU is to provide a permanent record of the educational accomplishments of an individual who has completed one or more significant non-credit educational experiences. The IACET CEU provides a quality indicator for continuing education and training programs because it means that a course has been reviewed and approved as complying with an internationally recognized standard.

Q. Can I use my IACET CEUs for college credit?

IACET CEUs are not college credits. Acceptance of IACET CEUs for college credit is at the discretion of the college or university. Just like college credits that are given at one university and transferred to another, any organization has the right to accept or reject IACET CEUs. IACET is a well-known organization that is recognized as upholding standards of excellence when it comes to continuing education, and therefore many organizations will accept IACET CEUs. Most colleges will not directly accept CEUs for college or graduate credit. However, some colleges and universities will look at an individual's portfolio that includes work experience and continuing education and training offerings (measured by CEUs).

Q. How do I obtain a record of my CEUs?

Students who enrolled in and completed courses at Sessions College for Professional Design after February 1, 2009 can obtain an academic transcript indicating CEUs earned by contacting Student Services. CEUs are not provided for partially completed courses.
