Presenter Bios for March Events:
Christopher Schmitt is the founder of Heatvision, a small new media publishing and design firm. Christopher is an award-winning Web designer who has been working with the Web since 1993. Christopher earned a Masters in Communication for Interactive and New Communication Technologies while obtaining a graduate certificate in Project Management from FSU's College of Communication. As a sought-after speaker and trainer, Christopher regularly demonstrates the use and benefits of practical standards-based designs. Christopher is the Co-Lead of the Adobe Task Force for the Web Standards Project (WaSP) and author of numerous Web design and digital imaging books, including Adapting to Web Standards: CSS and Ajax for Big Sites, and CSS Cookbook. Christopher has also written for New Architect Magazine, A List Apart, Digital Web, and Web Reference.
Dr. Taz Tally is the president of Taz Tally Seminars, a computer publishing consulting and training company, and Taz Tally Photography. Taz is the author of numerous graphics and print production books including Photoshop Before and After Makeovers, Acrobat and PDF Solutions, Avoiding the Output Blues, and Avoiding the Scanning Blues, and he is a contributing author to The Photoshop World Dream Team Book. Taz has produced numerous instructional videos, CDs, DVDs and online training courses on scanning, prepress and printing, Photoshop, color correction, and font management, including an extensive library on Lynda.com. Taz is a frequent presenter at seminars and trade shows throughout the U.S, including the GraphExpo, the annual Chicago Print show, and is a member of the Photoshop Dream Team at the biannual Photoshop World convention.
Andrew Shalat is an author, designer/illustrator, educator, and Mac expert. Since 1985 he has been designing and writing articles about Macintosh, Mac software, and publishing technologies that have appeared in Macworld, maccentral.com and macweek.com (for which he was a columnist writing "Shalat's Web"). He has been a regular speaker/faculty member at Macworld Expo since 2001 and has written three books: How to Do Everything with Online Video (McGraw-Hill, Osborne), Do It Yourself Mac Projects (McGraw-Hill), and MacDesign Out of the Box (Peachpit). Andrew is a regular contributor to design and Macintosh related sites including Inside Mac Radio, InDesign Magazine, and Creativepro.com. His design work covers a large range of media including book, CD and DVD covers, brochures, catalogs, outdoor signage, print ads, artwork, logos, Flash and Web design, and grocery lists. Over the past two decades, Andrew has taught literature, writing, Web design, and print design.
Joss Parsey likes to describe herself as a graphics nomad. In the past two decades she has traveled through the diverse world of graphics working full-time and freelance for a varied crowd. The work has gone from designing fabrics for Liz Claiborne, logos for various institutions or for individuals, marketing pieces for photographers or corporations and posters for publishing houses. She worked in-house at Adobe Illustrator and was the graphic communication leader at Smart Design working on projects for Copco, Serengetti Sunglasses and Kepner Tregoe.
Gordon Drummond is the President of Sessions College. Gordon is an editor and educator with 20 years of experience in instructional design. Prior to joining Sessions College, he worked as curriculum director at Kaplan Educational Centers, designing courses for K-12, pre-college, and graduate students, and co-authoring two test preparation books. Gordon began developing online education in 1999, working as the senior Knowledge Architect at Boston-based learningbrands. Gordon has presented seminars on online learning at Macworld, DETC, ANGEL Learning, CCA, Surtex conferences and has published in Distance Learning magazine. Since the Fall 2007, Gordon has served on the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools. Gordon earned an MA in English Literature from University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Kim O'Hanlon is the Director of Admissions. She oversees the admissions team, and works closely with students during the entire enrollment process. She assembles customized programs that are the ideal fit for each individual's goals. Outside Sessions College, Kim is a freelance designer, creating compelling imagery that reflects the business image of her clients. She has previously done design work and organized philanthropy for ICM Document Solutions, a document management company. She loves to travel to get inspiration for her work, and is interested in all types of culture. Kim was involved in the National Art Honor Society and graduated with a Graphic Design degree from Glendale Community College.
Mhelanie Silao is the Associate Director of Admissions. She is dedicated to learn about our students' career directions while assisting them to find the best program. Since Sessions College welcomes students from all over the world, she enjoys learning about the different cultures of all students. As a trained designer, she is a Graphic Design graduate and has previously worked at PHOENIX Magazine and Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine. Mhelanie believes creative ideas are what move the viewers in unexpected ways. Therefore, she likes to stay creative by exercising her design and photography skills. During her spare time, she pursues her light painting hobby where she has been featured as a light painter in numerous galleries in Arizona.
