Why I built this course:
"Making
game art is a labor of love. As an artist, you'll need
to
understand how 3D packages like Maya work. My course
focuses on proper technique, planning, strategy, good
habits, and of
course good 3D models. I'm going to help you feel comfortable
in Maya and be able to plan and innovate on your own:
a skill that is important for any role." |
The Developer: Nat is an experienced
digital artist and animator with a portfolio that includes
the games Halo 2 and Sid Meier's Railroads as well
as TV and movie work. He's also taught animation and
3D modeling at his alma mater the University of Massachusetts.
Nat brings an enthusiasm to teaching Maya at Sessions
that will help students feel comfortable learning this
essential and complex software.
The Course: From the very first lecture,
this course dives into Autodesk Maya with lots of hands-on
work. Students are quickly introduced to the ins and
outs of the Maya interface and learn to build a wide
variety of simple and complex 3D models. Polygonal modeling,
texturing, UV mapping, and even animation are introduced
with fun examples from the video game world. Challenging
projects test skills while letting students get creative.
Who Should Take It: Maya Basics
is perfect for any budding game artist. Autodesk Maya
is one of the top 3D applications used in the game
industry. Students with an interest in creating models,
environments, game textures, lighting set-ups, and
animated characters should make Maya Basics their first
stop. Maya is also great for design and digital arts
students who wish to dabble in 3D models or architecture.
Cool Factor: Taking your 2D ideas
and bringing them to life in 3D is an amazing feeling,
and it's so much easier than you think! Nat's engaging
take on the software makes it fun to learn, and you'll
start seeing results fast.
