Online Graphic Design degree program requirements

The Associate's program is delivered entirely online, and therefore requires a computer with an Internet connection as well as additional hardware, software, and supplies.

Review the online Graphic Design degree program requirements below, and be sure to visit our Student Store for discounts on hardware and software. You must be an enrolled student to be eligible for educational discounts.

  • A Windows-based or Macintosh computer that meets manufacturers' requirements for required software in the program.
  • Access to the Internet. High-speed access is recommended, and is required when taking a proctored final exam (see details on proctored exams below).
  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver CS4 or CS5 software. Read Adobe's system requirements for the Design Premium suite. This suite is not required, but does contain the software required for the program.
  • Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A digital camera, adjustable ISO and adjustable white balance features recommended
  • An account with an ad-free Web hosting service. The HTML and CSS I course will provide information to help you meet this requirement if you have not already.
  • Basic drawing supplies including pencils, charcoal, newsprint, and sketch paper. The Drawing I course will provide specifics and a discount code for art supply site utrecht.com.

Final exams for general education courses have additional hardware requirements. These exams are facilitated by an unbiased third party, ProctorU, which ensures consistent academic integrity and validates student identity. Taking a proctored exam with ProctorU requires the following technology:

  • A reliable computer running Windows XP (or higher) or Mac OS X (or higher) with 256 MB of RAM or higher
  • A webcam with at least 640x480 video pixel resolution (can be built in)
  • Headphones or working speakers connected to the computer
  • A microphone connected to the computer
  • A Web browser with Adobe Flash Player installed
  • A reliable high-speed Internet connection
  • The ability to allow VNC connections to the computer you will be using to take your exam
