Scanning the pages of GDi08, the graduate graphic design and illustration showcase from Brighton University (UK), I found a number of design projects that intelligently approach the world’s ecological crisis.

1.
The first graduate Ciara Phelan designed this clever screen-printed t-shirt about global warming. Phelan explains, “If washed at 40 degrees, the print runs away leaving tree stalks. If hand washed in cold water the print is preserved.”

2.
Echoing the concept of London’s 2005 WEEE Man, Sasha Hardway designed this ‘rubbishman’ poster to
illustrate how the average UK consumer throws away their body weight in rubbish every 7 weeks.

3.
“Bought by Us” is a poster design from Amelia Roberts. Questioning the Western world’s role in increasing China’s carbon emissions, this simple poster paints the silhouette of an industrial skyline, whilst standing entirely constructed from consumer products.

The to one reminds me of Element T-shirts, it’s a pretty good idea, forcing people to wash clothes manually, like in the old days.
