This is a fascinating subject. It is hard to imagine in the erra of computers what it was like to print with machines.

    Great Work!
My father was a typographer and owner of one of the larger commercial typesetting companies in southwest U.S. However, he was first and foremost a typographer and Linotype operator. I don’t think many people studying or for that matter teaching graphic design today, understand the history of the industry inside the graphics industry. A completely separate industry who’s sole purpose was to create type images to be reproduced via printing, film or video/TV process. A nice tribute to a technology that existed, basically unchanged from it’s creation in the 19th century until it was replaced 100 years later. The Linotype and Intertype were basically the same machine with some differences in the loading of the type magazines. The Intertype had the ability to change fonts quicker.
Our plant had 14 wide format Harris Intertypes (42 picas) and at least that many standard format (36 pica) Intertype machines.
There were 100 plus employees in the mid 1970′s in our plant who were considered craftsmen and craftswomen.
Great Film and thank you for sharing.
