Now you see him, now you don’t. Vanishing artist Liu Bolin camouflages himself in order to vanish in a chosen scene. Liu has disappeared in environments ranging from the everyday to the exotic and bizarre.

The vanishing process is quite technical and requires detailed preparation from a dedicated team to execute each temporary installation successfully. Below, Liu vanishes in the soda isle of a grocery store in Beijing. Thirsty? Be careful what you grab for…

Here, Bolin is “Occupying Wall Street”:

Bolin travels the world to popular and remote destinations to create masterpieces and challenge his team with intricate scenery. Bolin has blended into backgrounds from the Great Wall of China to the ancient ruins in Rome.

Here is a peek into the creation of one exhibit:

As Bolin currently resides in Beijing, China, much of his inspiration and some of the best exhibitions take place there. You can see more from Beijing including his incredibly detailed “Dragon Series.”

We love his inventiveness and dedication to each exhibit; his is a truly remarkable and interesting take on art requiring immense patience and creativity. Have you seen other artists perform this same kind of vanishing act?
