About The Client
Based in New York City 's East Village , The Interdependence Project (I.D. Project) is a grassroots, community-oriented non-profit organization. I.D. Project offers weekly meditation classes, lectures and discussions inspired by the Buddhist philosophical tradition as well as other contemplative education systems, guest lecturers from a variety of backgrounds, workshops and retreats, monthly arts groups and seasonal arts shows, online multi-genre magazine (Sentient City), community service and responsible consumption projects. The I.D. Project is dedicated to teaching the insights of meditation techniques and applying the truth of interconnectedness to life in the 21st-century world.
About The Project
This is a trifold brochure design with a detachable back panel for mail-in donations. The goal of the brochure will be to make people aware of the I.D. Project Mission, draw them back to the web site to learn how to participate in events, and encourage them to make a donation.
The challenge of this design is that the brochure needs to convey a colorful, dynamic organization with lots of fun ways to participate, but also keep the focus on meditation and philosophy. Also, be aware when choosing typefaces and images that Nomi Kleinman, the organization's Co-Director of the Arts Branch, told me they specifically try *not* to associate themselves with images of the Buddha or Buddhism, because they want to draw the distinction that this is not a religious organization and participants would potentially be alienated by that misconception.
Some visual elements need to stay as they are: The I.D. Project logo as you see on the website, and the major colors (red, gold, yellow, black) are integral to the organization’s identity. As long as these two elements appear on the new design, the rest of it is subject to your creative vision: typefaces, colors, and layout.
You may also research additional stock images from iStockphoto for use in the brochure.
File formats: You have the option to submit up to three designs for consideration in the initial round of judging. These should be submitted as jpegs for web-ready viewing. However, remember to keep your originals! The winner will have to submit print-ready files either from Illustrator, InDesign, or Quark.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
|
All participating students must complete the I.D. Project Competition Sign-Up form within the Competition folder in the Student Center. Upon doing so, we will enter you into a "class" within Angel where you can download the images and copy. There you will also view more detailed competition information and submission instructions.
Submit I.D. Project site designs by Monday, April 21, 2008
Each participant has the opportunity to submit 3 versions of their initial brochure designs. If you are selected as a finalist, the client will indicate which one to use for revisions in the next phase of the project. Semi-finalists will have an opportunity to revise and improve their designs with Faculty feedback. We will be reviewing final submissions along with I.D. Project, who will be selecting the winner. If your design is selected by I.D. Project, we may give you some notes for minor tweaks and revisions, and you may also be given feedback directly with the client, after which point you must submit a version of the finalized design to be approved by I.D. Project. |
