Web Design Training
HTML Basics

cool html codes at The HTML boot camp for training Web designers

web site graphic design

Brandi Robinson from Pennyslvania
hand-coded this travel site.

<HTML> is the language of the World Wide Web, a very simple yet often intimidating system of tags that enables text, graphics, sound, and video to be viewed on billions of Web pages. Learn HTML basics with an experienced professional through our distance learning course.

Thanks to today's HTML editors, (programs such as Dreamweaver and GoLive) entire sites can be designed without "hand-coding" in HTML. Applications to help users find the right HTML codes have become more user friendly, but for any Web designer, a baseline knowledge of HTML is critical. You've got to know how HTML (Hyper Text Mark Up Language) works — and how to fix things when it doesn't.

In this practical 3-lesson course, you'll cover everything from basic tags and tables to using templates and troubleshooting. Who'd have thought learning html codes could be this much fun?

Outline:

LESSON 1 The ABCs of HTML Lesson One begins with an HTML overview: explaining how HTML evolved, how much you need to know, and what tools you need to use. You'll learn how to construct a basic HTML page, and explore the ins and outs of formatting, Web colors, images, and links -- all the essential elements of a Web page. You'll learn how to create files and folders using the correct directory structure, and view source code to learn from the inspiration of others. In the exercise, you'll create an online menu for a restaurant.

LESSON 2 Tools for Tables HTML tables are used everywhere on the Web as a layout and content organization tool. Lesson Two gives you tools for tables: you'll learn how to construct them, format them, place elements in them, and fix 'em when they break. You'll discover how to add sophistication to your tables by modifying their properties: adding background colors and images, and using colspan and rowspan tags. In the exercise, you'll explore a common application for tables by building an e-commerce product page from scratch.

LESSON 3 Putting It All Together Lesson Three gives you a taste of some of the challenges of a professional HTML assignment. You'll look at the dynamic templates often used to contstruct e-commerce sites. You'll get an introduction to how HTML interacts with other coding languages such as ASP and ColdFusion. You'll discover how the "front end" of a form is created, learning how to create common form elements. The lesson wraps up with a guide to common HTML troubleshooting issues. In your final project, you'll create a 4-page "prototype" for an ecommerce site.
