Have your design goals changed since completing your program? What were your goals when you started the program? What are they now?
I came to Sessions with the goal of becoming a versatile designer without sacrificing quality. Currently my focus is on producing quality print and Web designs. Even though I enjoy dabbling in animation, video and even some programming, these are not a priority. So, versatility, but to an extent. I used Sessions pieces to create a print portfolio in order to complement my Web portfolio, www.designbychen.com. I'd like to land some print jobs in addition to Web design. I think versatility brings variety, and variety prevents stagnation.

What made you commit to the certificate program versus taking individual courses?
When I started I was retraining for a new career. My background was as a scenic artist and theatrical designer. Since I had no experience in graphic design or computer graphic programs, I felt the certificate would provide legitimacy.

How did you select Sessions as the place for your design studies?
Most importantly, I chose Sessions because I was impressed by the instruction. I feel the techniques and climate of graphic design change frequently, and I am more comfortable learning from professionals currently in the field, than from someone who worked in it 20 years ago. Sessions was also more convenient and better priced than a traditional school.

How do you plan to fit your coursework in around your regular work and life schedule?
Thank God there are 24 hours in a day...night hours and weekends are my best "creative" times. It’s a very “21st century” way to learn for people like me. With a family and many obligations, it's less stressful than how I used to go to school and study. I am amazed online learning is so much easier to do. All the instructors and tech people have been top-notch too.
