  • Develop an understanding of how bandwidth capacity, compression, and streaming affect the delivery of multimedia content online.
  • Assess the plug-ins or players required to view a site's multimedia content.
  • Determine a Web site’s target audience and how a site delivers content to it.
  • Develop an understanding of the techniques and technologies used by multimedia professionals.
  • Utilize a knowledge of multimedia to develop a concept for a futuristic multimedia device.

Course Outline

LESSON 1 Multimedia Fundamentals

So what exactly is multimedia and where did it all come from? This lesson examines how the world of multimedia evolved by exploring examples of offline and online multimedia. In the exercise, you'll step into the shoes of a digital guru and devise a strategy for your client.

LESSON 2 Multimedia on the Web

Multimedia saturates our online experiences and continues to grow in leaps and bounds. In Lesson Two, you'll see how content is delivered over the Web. Then you'll focus on how to implement it effectively by visiting the industry leaders that do it best. In the exercise, you'll critique a Web site using the concepts you learned in the lesson.

LESSON 3 Today's Multimedia Environment

Where can you go from here? In Lesson Three, we'll wrap up the course with a thorough look at the playing field. You'll explore areas of career growth and find out where the field is heading. For your final exercise, you'll be looking into the crystal ball and coming up with your own futuristic device!
