Micro-Credentials

Beginning on April 27th, 2026 Sessions College offers an exciting range of micro-credentials for enrolled students.

A micro-credential is a proof of achievement in a career skill. When you earn a micro-credential, you gain a digital badge that you can easily add to your LinkedIn, Twitter/X, or Facebook profile, share via email, or add to your website or email signature.

How it Works

Answering your micro-credential questions.

Q: What Micro-Credentials are Available?

At Sessions College, micro-credentials are awarded for demonstrating essential digital creative foundation skills. You can earn micro-credentials in Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and many more. See all Micro-Credentials.

In order to earn a micro-credential, you need to complete a micro-credential course with a grade of B or higher.

Q: Why Are Micro-Credentials Valuable?

In today’s crowded job market, micro-credentials can help clients and employers assess your skills. Hiring managers aren’t always able to evaluate your skills based on your portfolio of work. Every digital badge earned and shared connects to a page at the digital credentialing platform Credly with a breakdown of skills demonstrated.

Q: How Do I Earn a Micro-Credential?

To earn a micro-credential, students must complete a micro-credential course with a grade of B or higher.

Upon completing the course, you will receive a email notification from Credly with instructions to claiming your digital badge, which can you can easily add to your LinkedIn, Twitter/X, or Facebook profile, share via email, or add to your website or email signature.

Q: Can I Earn Micro-Credentials in a Program?

Yes! Because our Undergraduate Certificate programs focus on digital creative foundation skills, Undergraduate Certificate students will generally earn several micro-credentials during their program.

In the Graphic Design Undergraduate Certificate program, for example, students can earn the following micro-credentials:

DES 121 Photoshop I Photoshop
DES 111 Drawing I Drawing
DES 106 Design Foundations Color + Design + Type
DES 141 Illustrator I Illustrator
DES 201 InDesign I InDesign

Beginning in April 2026, students entering all Undergraduate Certificate, Associate Degree, and Bachelor’s Degree programs will have multiple opportunities to earn a micro-credential.

Q: Can I Earn An Individual Micro-Credential?

You certainly can! Each micro-credential course is available for individual enrollment. It’s a perfect way to top up or enhance your skills for all the world to see.

Your Most Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs and answers about micro-credentials compiled by our digital credentialing partner Credly.

What is an open badge?

Open badges are web-enabled versions of a credential, certification or learning outcome which can be verified in real-time, online.

How does my micro-credential get displayed as a badge?

We have partnered with Credly to translate the learning outcomes you’ve demonstrated into a badge, issued and managed through the company digital badging platform. The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by 1EdTech (formerly IMS Global). This enables you to manage, share and verify your competencies digitally.

What are the benefits of a badge?

Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of.

Who is Credly?

Credly is the end-to-end solution for issuing and managing digital credentials. Credly works with credible organizations to provide digital credentials to individuals, worldwide.

How will I know if I’ve earned a badge?

You will receive an email notification from Credly (admin@credly.com) with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.

What if I don’t want my badge to be public?

You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.

Is there a fee to use Credly?

No. This is a service we provide to you, at no cost.

What’s to keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?

While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on Credly. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

Where and how can I share my badge through Credly?

You can share your badge directly from Credly to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature.

Can I export badges issued through Credly to other badge-storing platforms?

Yes, you can download your badge from the Share Badge page. Your downloaded badge contains Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI) compliant metadata embedded into the image. This allows you to store your badge on other OBI-compliant badge sites, such as the Badgr Backpack.

Where and how can I share my badge through Credly?

You can share your badge directly from Credly to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature.
