Marissa Sasscer

Fort Valley, VA
Associate Degree in Illustration

Graduate Profile

About me: My passions and interests include reading and collecting books, with Classic Literature being one of my favorite genres. I also love tea drinking, going on walks, listening to different kinds of music, and working on creative projects.

Favorite projects: In terms of skills, I feel that my greatest area of strength would be digital illustration. Meanwhile, children’s books have been my favorite kind of project to work on.

Why study online: One benefit of studying online is that you can study from anywhere, so I was able to spend more time with my family while in school. Meanwhile, being able to access lectures and discussions online gave me a great deal of flexibility in balancing school with life.

Best thing about Sessions: I feel the best thing about Sessions College is the flexibility, as well as the solid design skills and instruction that one gains from the courses. It helps to establish a student mentality when it comes to design, which helps one to continue improving throughout one’s creative journey.

Favorite class or instructor? My favorite instructor was Jordon Schranz. His instruction and the courses he developed helped me improve significantly in draftsmanship and drawing from observation. I also benefited greatly from the instruction of Fiorella Shalat, Michael Hamm, and Bill Drastal. Meanwhile, another course that was extremely helpful to me was the Design Foundations course.

Creative/professional goals after graduation? I'm currently illustrating a workbook for a past client. We had worked on a couple projects in the past, so it's great to be working with her again. I also hope to be able to illustrate more children's books in the future.
