New Micro-Credentials Program at Sessions
A micro-credential is quite simply a proof of achievement in a career skill. In today’s crowded job market, micro-credentials can help prospective clients and employers understand your capabilities. Hiring managers don’t always know how to assess your skills. Micro-credentials help fill this gap by providing a skills breakdown that employers can understand and verify.
Beginning on April 27th, 2026, Sessions students enrolled in a range of digital creative foundation courses can earn a micro-credential by completing a micro-credential course with a grade of B or higher. Students can earn micro-credentials in Photoshop, Illustrator, Photography, Design, Screenwriting, Cinematography, and many more.
When you earn a micro-credential, you gain a digital badge that you can easily add to your LinkedIn, Twitter/X, or Facebook profile, share via email, or add to your website or email signature. Every digital badge earned and shared connects to a page at Credly with a breakdown of skills demonstrated.
Micro-credentials can be earned through completion of individual courses, or by enrollment in Undergraduate Certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree programs. At the end of each term, students can select which awarded micro-credentials they want to add to their profiles.
For Sessions College, the goal of the new micro-credential program is to offer a powerful new way for students to showcase their skills. “We are excited to provide students with the opportunity to celebrate their academic achievement by earning micro-credential badges for a range of digital foundation courses,” says Dr. Meryl P. Epstein, Sessions Dean of Academic Affairs. “Sharing digital badges through social media venues can help spread the word about your technical and creative skills.”
Sessions College is working with Credly by Pearson to provide the micro-credentials and digital badges. Credly collaborates with top global training providers, credential issuers, associations and academic institutions that are similarly focused on the power of verified skills and achievements. Credly transforms knowledge, skills and achievements into digital credentials that empower individuals to connect with learning and career opportunities.
Micro-credentials can be particularly useful in today’s crowded, AI enabled job market.
According to Sessions College President Gordon Drummond: “Hiring managers are often looking for quick and verifiable ways to identify suitable candidates for a role. In the digital design field, the most important elements in a job application are always a strong portfolio together with evidence of completing a degree or certificate. Micro-credentials enhance the picture by helping employers understand whether a candidate has specific skills they are looking for.”
