Design Faculty Panel Portfolio Review
Portfolio Review

Put Your Design work to the test of Professional Standards

Sessions students Dan Farrell and Jeremy Willmott
both created outstanding portfolio sites.

Building a strong portfolio is essential to launching your career as a designer. More important than pedigree or employment history, your portfolio is the single most crucial asset in your professional arsenal.

In the design industry, your work speaks for itself. To the extent that clients recognize quality, design is a meritocracy; clients and employers evaluate you for jobs primarily on the basis of work you've accomplished.

As you near the end of your Master's or Advanced Certificate program, you'll be entered into the Portfolio Review. Three faculty members whose specialties span print, type, identity, web, and multimedia design, will vet your portfolio against your stated career objectives and against industry standards. You will get extensive and detailed professional feedback on the strengths and weaknesses, and directions to grow your portfolio.

Process:

Upon enrollment to Portfolio Review, you will have three months of access to the class. At any point during that time, you can submit links to up to 20 pieces of work (in a single posting) for the Faculty panel to review. You may choose to include work not done at Sessions.

Once your work is posted, you will receive detailed comments from Faculty in 1-2 weeks. You then have several options, depending on your available time and desire to submit revisions or additional work based the feedback you have received:

Based on the panel's recommendations, you can revamp your portfolio and resubmit it for final comments.

Work on specific pieces (or create new ones) based on Faculty recommendations, soliciting feedback from instructors via course mail.
