A Message to Students from Joss Parsey

The lights are on but no one is home! Too many graphic designers today are engaged in creating work that looks pretty but says nothing. Technology can help us produce beautiful designs but so often they are without substance.

Good graphic design concepts make a statement. They are eye-catching, timeless, memorable, and unique. Learning graphic design is about learning how to communicate visually in a constantly changing world.

In my career I have had the pleasure of working in a wide range of design fields. Invariably you start working with a client or a content area you know nothing about. And then you get excited about learning new information and conveying ideas and statements in ways that are direct, essential, and powerful.

The Graphic Design Certificate program at Sessions is the product of many different designers' experiences, streamlined to help students understand the field they are getting into. In my life journey I have met several people who opened my eyes to "seeing" the world just a little differently, which has helped me tremendously in my career. My aim as a teacher is to help those get energized about the visual world and to use it to their advantage. To get students thinking and focusing on the job at hand in a fresh and unique way. My goal is to have fun doing it too.

Graphic design is multi-faceted—the richness and diversity is what makes this kind of design unique and constantly interesting. There will always be a need for visual communication that is built on fundamental art and design techniques, principles, and processes.

I believe the programs offered by Sessions will help anyone desiring to take this design route. Sessions can help you develop a portfolio of professional-looking work, which is the end product of helpful and real critiques from working designers.

I invite you to come and investigate what Sessions can do for you, whether you are new to graphics or just wanting a jolt to keep up to speed. I am convinced Sessions has something of interest for all who are interested in furthering their creative abilities. Hope to see you around!
