SnapChat Debuts Augmented Reality Filters

by Margaret Penney | June 27, 2017

Augmented Reality, the latest in visual trend and innovation, is now at SnapChat. AR basically is a way to add another visual layer above reality, when you are are looking through a camera, goggles or other viewing device. Augmented Reality was made popular last summer with PokemonGo and is now being adopted by companies in new and creative ways.

Snapchat debuted its World Lens in April which allows a user to place 3D objects within a scene and actually walk around them in virtual space.  Now they are releasing something even more out of this world — a new set of camera filters that actually interact with the outside environment.

The new set of filters are sponsored and can be purchased by companies interested in advertising on this popular social media platform. It will be very interesting to see what kinds of creative advertisements sponsoring companies come up with over the next few months.
