Free Font Friday: Evergreen

by Margaret Penney | June 30, 2017

For this Free Font Friday, here is Evergreen, designed by Danish designer Maria Grønlund. Evergreen is a lovely example of a contemporary font design with classic roots, in the Didone style, in particular. It’s not possible to trace Evergreen’s total lineage though, as it has a lot of individual details that make it quite unique. For instance, the ‘dots’ for the lowercase i and j are small leaves. Details like this give the design an artful and whimsical look. Yet at the same time Evergreen is also very modern and clean with a very balanced and smoothly drawn visual presentation.

As Grønlund herself states, Evergreen “has its own unique style that cannot be placed in a specific time period. Just like a song that remains perennially fresh and interesting—an evergreen—which is the aim designing this font.”

Evergreen would be a good choice for a flyer or poster where large type was necessary. It can work as a headline but would also be a really great sub-headline. It would also be an excellent choice for a logotype for beauty, wellness, ecological or health food markets.

Evergreen is free for personal use.
