Free Font Friday: Lavishly Yours

Lavishly Yours is a script typeface created by Robert Leuschke of the type foundry, TypeSETit. Designed to feel fresh from the pages of a fairytale, Lavishly Yours delivers on that promise with its ornate uppercase characters that lend the face a certain charm and whimsy. The overall appearance isn’t overly refined, though. In fact, I would characterize the lowercase letterforms as leaning more toward casual than formal. This is due in part to the upright nature of the typeface as a whole. This mixture of the more formal uppercase characters, which feature a high degree of ornamentation and its casual lowercase set creates an interesting effect through which the character of each is highlighted through contrast.

The calligraphic strokes of Lavishly Yours are fairly high contrast. While the lowercase letters reserve the thicker weights for the verticals and thinner for the horizontal strokes, the embellished uppercase characters taper back and forth, imparting the form with a sense of rhythm and movement. As the name seems to suggest, Lavishly Yours would make a great choice for upscale parties or wedding invitations.
